why does the government put them down so much and are they truley the killers that they are made out to be?What is the true meaning of an anarchist?
There were certainly anarchists that have assassinated political figures in the past, so some are killers, but then again, there are Christians that have killed doctors who performed abortions based on their Christian beliefs, but we don't consider all Christians to be killers.
There are two main types of governments that are afraid of anarchists: capitalist governments and authoritarian governments.
Capitalist governments are run by the wealthy. Political candidates are either wealthy themselves, or do the bidding of the wealthy because the wealthy fund their election campaigns. Anarchists want to replace capitalism with democratically run companies (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autogestion ), so capitalists fear them because they threaten the power of the wealthy.
Authoritarian governments concentrate power in the hands of a few. Anarchists want to replace the political structure with decentralized democracy and direct democracy. Many anarchists don't even want to elect representatives, because it risks corruption. Many prefer to make decisions based on a direct vote of the community. Authoritarians want to enforce their own decisions over as many people as possible. Anarchists want people to be free to make their own decisions and support having different independent communities each making their own independent decisions. What is the true meaning of an anarchist?
An anarchist is someone opposed to the existence of government and would rather have no laws save for the rule of nature, i.e. survival of the fittest. Most of them would likely starve to death.
Anarchists are anti-government.
Anarchist movements can be dangerous however are usually fairly benign (after all people who don't believe in authority have a hard time organizing)
They are put down and fear by the government so much because they are anti-government and therefore a perceived threat base upon their core values.
an anarchist is one who actively seeks to undermine and overthrow a present form of government or other power structure. obviously, a sitting government would not look favorably upon such a person and whether an anarchist murders others in his quest is relative to the situation i would think.
I know some anarchists and since plenty of people have given good definitions of anarchists, allow me to give my biased definition of them:
They are people who are so sick of the government that they have stopped believing that there is any possibility of a better life out of a different party. They believe that this country would be better off without government and most of them ardent opponents of gun control because they are delusional and think that if, nay, when the government falls they will walk the streets with their side arms blazing and be free at last just like it was the old west.
Anarchy doesn't work people. True anarchy lasts in quantitites of hours rather than years. When there is a vacuum of power it WILL be filled by something and I am damn sure that as corrupt as our government has been in the first part of the 21st century, I would rather have them than some kind of warlord system.
