It means through a chain of no more than 6 people you can connect yourself to any person in the world. It may not be universally true, and it requires certain channels of communications (eg. a famous person you know is a better link than Joe Blow).
For example, I met my member of parliament in Canada. He works with the Canadian Prime minister. The PM knows the US president. Shrub has (probably) met your senator. And you could meet your senator. That's a separation of only four people to get from me to you. What does the phrase 6 degrees of separation actually mean and do you think it's true?
I totally believe in it...it is almost weird how small of a world we really live in...What does the phrase 6 degrees of separation actually mean and do you think it's true?
That there are 5 people (6 degrees) between you and any other person on Earth who you would like to contact. Its true
6 degrees of seperation means that a person is connected to anyone else with 6 (or fewer) people in between. for example, i went to school with someone who married someone who's mother 's daughter was the pink power ranger.
it is most commonly used with Kevin Bacon, and it is widely accepted that he can be traced to almost every hollywood actor, due to the incredibly large number of movies he is in.
and yes, i think it is true for everyone.
It is the theory that in the socially-connected condition of modern Earth, everybody knows somebody who knows somebody, etc.; so that there are no more than six steps from any one person on this planet to any other one person: no more than five acquaintances between them, in other words. Experiments seem to prove this out.
That there are 5 people (6 degrees) between you and any other person on Earth who you would like to contact. And, yes, I do think it's true!
