Is it true that ferrets are very mean?

ever since i was a kid is wanted a ferret soooo bad never had one i think they are so cute. but im told thay are evil lil things that bite and attack ppl and rabbits and like to chew on stuff.


i always hear so many scary storys about them but ppl still have them as pets??Is it true that ferrets are very mean?
NOOOOO!!!!! Ferrets are the cutest nicest pets in the world. They are very playful but will entertain them selves, they are smart and love to just play. I mean they have an occasional bad day or some aren't as social but over all they are NOT MEAN!!! Where did u hear that?! It's extreamly not true!Is it true that ferrets are very mean?
They steal things and get out of their cages like crazy!!!! I love them but they smell awful! My friend TJ had one named heidi and she was cool as hell! I stayed over in their basement and i woke up and saw her running around examining people (the rest where asleep) it was so cute and funny.
Like Ahbeeb said, if it's mistreated, it'll be mean and evil; if it's treated properly, it will be sweet and friendly. I think ferrets get a reputation as being ';mean'; because of their rough play. They play very rough with each other and, an untrained ferret, will try to play just as rough with a human or other animal. They're not actually being mean, just playing. They can, however, be trained not to play as rough with a human. The ferrets I have are all so sweet and friendly. I've taken them into visit the kids at the day care I work at and they have never once tried biting any of the kids (they do sometimes latch onto shoes though when I put them on the floor). As long as you treat them right - show them love and respect and discipline them properly and only when needed, then your ferret should not turn out mean and nasty. I've heard stories of ferrets being cat and baby killers, but this is not true - these people are just greatly misinformed. Ask any responsible ferret owner out there and I guarantee they'll all say how sweet and lovable their ferret(s) is/are.
not at all. i have two ferrets that are amazingly nice. a ferret can nip if they are excited, but it doesnt hurt at all. it could be compared to a light kitten bite.
NO! ferrets are extremely sweet! They are very smart animals. They cuddle to and are full of life and things to do and discover.
I used to have the very same conception of ferrets and wondered why in the world would anyone want to own such a vicious creature... Then I met a properly trained, well-loved ferret and she changed my opinion of them forever. They are sweet marvelous creatures when in the right hands.





As for attacking rabbits... You can't hate them for what is in their nature. It's like asking a lion not to hunt, asking a spider not to spin a web, asking a duck not to swim.





They also like to collect things and if they aren't given adequate faux burrows around the house, they will tear up furniture to bury their horde. (It's a good idea to give them a few non-important treasures so that the stuff you need isn't repeatedly stolen.) Woe to those that disturb their nests ;-)





Edit: As for the smell... again... it depends on how well they're taken care of (and personal opinion.) Before the one I fell in love with, I had formerly found the smell repulsive. Then when I met the well taken care of, I loved the smell. (In hindsight all the other ones were dirty. It's hard to know though if you've never met a well groomed one.) It is a bit strong, but not offensive. (Then again, I LOVE the smell of skunks, but can NOT stand the smell of goats.) It's been a long time since I've seen any ferrets but even thinking about them I can remember the smell and it makes me smile. (Then again it also is associated with happy memories.)

They are what you make them. Just like any other animal if you don't handle it...treat it badly...throw it around...kick it etc..it'll hate you and bite you and call you bad names (ok maybe not that). But if you treat it nicely you'll get much love and kisses.





I have two ferrets, my oldest guy loves to cuddle and give kisses and just lay in your arms and fall asleep. the younger one is just always on the go but if you catch him in the morning and hold him he gives you kisses before getting into his gatta gogogoogog routine
ferrets are so cute i have 4 and they are very sweet i have had 2 of my ferrets for 4 years and i got 2 more 3 months ago the younger ferrets sleep with my 2 year old son. sometimes they do bite but its only a play bite and it does not hurt and never draw blood. they are a trip to watch and yes you should keep your purse up high because they do like to take stuff and hide it.. they love money and espically rings and other jewelry. they love attention i run a day care out of my home and the ferrets love all of the kids. the ferrets never bite any of the kids but they do like to take fruit when the kids are not looking which makes the kids mad. but as long as u spend time with the ferrets and dont keep them locked up all the time they will not be mean. i would get 2 so they can play unless you maybe have a kitten. my ferrets and kitten play all the time and they act like brothers and sisters.


as far as the rabbits go i also have rabbits and they play good together
Not unless you corner or startle them but then every animal does.
