In nature, a shady or shaded path or lane receives much less sunlight and airflow. After a rain, it will not dry up as quickly as a sunlit lane. Sometimes, it will not dry at all. They get muddy and difficult to walk through. Hence: a shady lane breeds mud, you cannot travel through it without difficulty, or without getting yourself dirty.
Someone who is shady and sneaky,will eventually will be caught and is dirty.
