lol and buying as much as you canWhy are stores complaining about down sales for Christmas?Isn't the true meaning of Christmas is Jesus Christ?
The stores are not worried about Jesus Christ, as it's 2008 and the majority of people ARE NOT CONCERNED about JC. So now, the true meaning of christmas is money... not jesus christ. its all about presents, consumers spendning money, and kids complaining that they didn't get enoguhWhy are stores complaining about down sales for Christmas?Isn't the true meaning of Christmas is Jesus Christ?
No, the true meaning isn't Jesus Christ. I'm not a Christian, but I celebrate the holiday commonly referred to as ';Christmas';. Christmas is very much a material holiday, whether we like it or not. And this year, a lot of people are watching their pennies and won't be spending as much.
What do stores have to do with Jesus Christ? They just want to make money. Duh.
Your kidding, right?
That would be for churches to complain about. For stores, they want to make sales, so they would complain about down sales.
true, but then againg, some of the stores are not christian
dont forget that
but overall, the holydays are to be with family and be greatful for what we have, not material possessions
Faith is one thing, and economics is another. Of course, this doesn't mean that faith shouldn't influence how you handle economics.
In American culture, Christmas sales can make about one-quarter of a store's yearly sales. Therefore, the stores need to do well at Christmastime. Now, you can see this as an unhealthy way to run the marketplace, and I agree with you. Dependence upon Christmas sales have led to the overcommercialization of Christmas.
It's up to individuals like you and me to keep the spiritual meaning of Christmas above the material. Gift are good, but be wise about your gift-giving. Don't give gifts you can't afford to people you don't care much about. Give some of your gifts to the poor. Give wisely to your family and friends, whether this entails expensive stuff or not. (Remember the gift Mary of Bethany gave to Jesus? Expensive gifts are sometimes appropriate.)
Society will not change its materialistic attitude toward Christmas unless individuals change, and influence their near and dear.

Um no.. its actually originally a pagan holiday.. christians ruin everything
American's spend approx 450 billion each year during the Christmas season. It would cost 10 billion to make clean water available to everyone in the world.

For shops, the true meaning of Christmas is making lots of money.
no the true meaning of christmas is money
Um, because stores exist to make money, I suppose.
Christmas is about Christ, stores are about $$profits$$
Yes, but with all holidays there is a commercial aspect. Surprisingly Xmas is NOT the number one revenue maker of all the holidays.
I have heard people of simple minds say: ';Christmas is for children.'; With that comment they are clearly referring to the gift giving aspect of the holiday. I find this more absurd than the commercialization itself because these people have become so influenced by the retail aspect of Xmas that they have totally lost touch with the true origins of the day.
That said, I like the idea of giving on this holiday. It seems to bring the best out of - almost - all people; and it does represent - although very loosely - the gifts of the Maji.
No, christmas is just a pagan holiday hijacked by the christians.
And why would stores be concerned about the true meaning of Christmas?
Now if churches were complaining about the down sales for Christmas...then that would be an interesting question.
Christmas was set up by the Catholic church to coincide with many Pagan rituals and traditions and it is not correct re: time; Jesus never said to celebrate His birth, although I'm thankful to God He was born, died and rose again
It has become a time of greed and for some depression and lonliness etc;
Jesus asked us to keep one ceremony, the communion in remembrance of Him
Jesus Christ Shmesus Shmrist who gives a holy crap.
That depends on if your christian. Some of us don't celebrate Jesus.
Christmas is the time of year where any store that is in the red will get into the black (thats how black Friday came along). Since our economy is down, this season is a sure signal of whether or not we are going to get as bad as many people beleive.
Not with our society.
Most stores are seperate from religion.
Christmas was never about Jesus.
Well...Christmas as actually a Pagan holiday before Christians came along.
But yes, you are right. Christmas has become nothing more than a day for businesses to make money. It's sad really.
I think for different people christmas means different things. for christians it is Jesus, for athiests perhaps it is the gifts, and for stores it's about how much they can boost their sales.
Not for me and my family. It's turkey and presents day ... family and unity day ... love and sharing day. Sorry you didn't get the memo. You can't steal christmas from the rest of us like you did from the Pagans. Nice try.
Yes it is! But not all store owners are Christians so they don't care about the true meaning of Christmas, many probably just like Christmas because of all the money people spend in the Christmas season.
yes we can
Yes, the true meaning of Christmas is Jesus Christ but many shops exploit this to gain a profit. Unfortunately for them, in heaven material possessions don't matter!
AMEN!!! We should stop all the buying and focus on Jesus!
