Ok, what I've heard (from a computer guy) is that from now on they're making all their stuff compatible with Windows Vista or later. It happens all the time...I mean, how many computers do you see with Windows 97 anymore? They upgrade so that people have to keep giving them $$$Is it true? officially Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft? does this mean i can't get software -?
Don't panic - Microsoft are still issuing security patches for XP. Don't forget that a lot of large business customers (and the company I work for is in there) are still supporting XP desktops and will be for a good while yet.

Increasingly you'll find that apps will have features that you can't access unless you're on Vista or Windows 7, but even that will take a good while trickle down - even Microsoft are supposedly supporting XP with the next version of Office [2010] - unless you're on 64bit XP which I would have thought unlikely on a refurb. Outside of that are the open source apps - like OpenOffice, GIMP, Inkscape, etc - you're probably safe for XP support from them for a couple of years yet.

Biggest issue will be games software - a lot of that will require DirectX release 10 or 11 (especially 10 for the moment) which means Vista/Win7. To be honest that's the biggest driver for me to upgrade my Windows XP-based gaming rig next year (got the software now, but the hardware upgrade I need for the XP Mode of Windows 7 will have to wait).

Best guess I can give is that you've probably got 2-3 years before you're forced to upgrade for normal office apps, maybe 1-2 years tops for games.
Your fine- they still make everything for XP- its called SCARE TACTICS- Buy or Else.

XP will be around for Years Yet.... I just re-did my office of 7 PCs with XP. Keep doing what your doing.. There is Millions of Websites with stuff for XP yet!
Here you go.

Officially from sources, Windows XP, Microsoft will extend support until 2013, then will end permanently. This doesn't mean Vendors will create software for it.
What Microsoft supports has nothing to do with the compatibility of programs software vendors write. Even Microsoft Office 2007 will run on XP.
Not true, they are still supporting until 2014

thats like 5 more years..

alot of large business are still using windows xp

but as time move on you will starting to see windows 7 growing
Who said this junk?

Microsoft is still with Windows! -.-

whoever said it deserves to turn gay.
