Yes. I think too many people forget what the true meaning of Christmas is. So many go into debt, and they shop for gifts but they miss what the real meaning is. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against shopping for gifts, but I am for celebrating Jesus Christ and his birth. He is the real reason for the season. I believe that many shop so much during this time because it is a way to make them feel better about themselves and life. Sure it is supposed to be a joyous time to spend with family and friends. But when you don't have Jesus in your life, then you are apt to replace him with gifts. Gifts are good in their place, but it shouldn't be all that we live for. I believe that many are empty on the inside. Many are so caught up in the hype but they forget that Jesus brings true life. Without him they will never be satisfied. He is the only one that can bring true peace. That is why during Christmas suicides increase. Why? Simply because many are empty and even when they spend on gifts there is something missing. Jesus is real, and he should be the focal point. Gifts should come secondary. Are our shopping habits during Christmas a true indication we don't know what the true meaning of Christmas is?
Here's the rub: you ask if ';...we don't know what the true meaning of Christmas is?...';
Problem is, Christmas is many things to many people.
For deeply religious folks, it's a religious remembrance ceremony. For retailers, it's a profitable shopping season. For folks who have no belief in the religious roots of the day, it's a day to tke time off and enjoy the company of friends. For broadcasters, it's a great excuse to roll out a month's worth of music they haven't been able to use for a year.
So, the *true* meaning of Christmas is fleeting. You can swear it's one thing, but you'd get an argument from many others.
Therefore, moot question.

I think we can pretty much use the example of the poor guy in NY getting trampled to death as customers bum-rushed into Wal Mart to get to the Christmas sales merchandise so fast that they ripped the doors off the hinges and didn't even stop to check on him. This, to me, says that yes, the meaning has been lost somewhere along the way.
oh people dfinitely forget the true meaning of Christmas
Definitely. Take Black Friday, for example.
Not a clue at all.
And it light of people being trampled to death in stores, we have completely lost it
I would say so......
Yeah, i would think so...
Good call, George!
